Chicago. New York City. Scotland. Germany. Australia. South Korea. LAS CRUCES. ANYWHERE. This 80 minute rap adaptation of one of Shakespeare's greatest stories was powerful in 2018 and has even more resonance and explosive energy at this moment. Othello: the Remix from its composers, JQ & GQ. What's The word?"... a thing to behold...
I was mesmerized by the talent of its four stars.... The impact of this lyrical, rhythmic, emotional play can't be described well enough to do it justice. You have to see it." - Las Cruces Bulletin Publisher Richard Coltharp Mark Medoff called our 2018 production "riveting" and "blazing." "Josh, Julian, Juan and Mark are attractive and compelling just standing still, but 'Othello: The Remix' lets each one show off his skills and versatility as an actor, singer, dancer and rap artist with individual and collective grace, style and energy." -Mike Cook, Las Cruces Bulletin Review |
OTHELLO: The Remix Response session
Hosted & Filmed on Sunday July 19th, 2020 via ZOOM
Scaffolding hosted a special conversation about our production of OTHELLO: The Remix. Beginning with a discussion about this Q Brothers' adaptation of OTHELLO, the performers discussed their thoughts on this story centered on “otherness" and the experience of being part of the production.
Amara Brady, an advocate of anti-racist theatre helped us dive into a broader conversation about diversity and equity. (https://www.amarajanaebrady.com/)
As FUN HOME playwright Lisa Kron states, “You can tell a story in which everybody in the world is the same and everything in the world is just like everything else. Or you can tell a story about how things are not the same, and yet equally human.” We're committed to doing the latter.
